Anxiety Therapy for Teens and Adults

We have all been there before…

We feel the tension in our stomach right before making a huge life decision…
With shaking hands and a racing heart, we speak at a work or school presentation…
Our brain can’t stop the “What if?” thoughts before surgery…

Anxiety is a completely normal response in all of those scenarios. Our brain and body use anxiety to increase our awareness of our surroundings because something feels “off” and to be prepared. Normal anxiety is short-lived and resolves on its own quickly.

But what about when anxiety just doesn’t stop??

Symptoms of anxiety will vary in duration and severity. Anxiety can alter our mood, our cognition, and our nervous system.

What is an Anxiety Disorder?

Anxiety disorders are very different from the sporadic and brief episodes of stress or worry, as described above. Individuals that are diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety disorder (GAD) feel extremely worried or nervous more frequently about a variety of things – even some that are fairly neutral. GAD involves a persistent feeling of anxiety or dread that interferes with how you live your life. People living with GAD experience frequent anxiety for months, if not years.

Other anxiety disorders include:

  • panic disorder
  • separation anxiety
  • specific phobias
  • social anxiety

Once you are connected with a therapist, they evaluate your symptoms and determine what diagnosis you may have and offer what they believe might provide the best relief.

The primary source of pain that comes with any anxiety disorder is the impact it can have on your career, engaging in school, enjoying time with loved ones, and keeping up with hobbies.
