We are a good fit if…you’re looking for a therapist who offers more than advice, someone who will walk alongside you as you navigate change and offer real solutions, you’re in the right place!
Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure where they fit. You may be navigating anxiety, OCD, depression, grief, relationship stress, or major life transitions, or neurodivergence. You might be new to therapy, or you may have tried therapy before but never quite found someone who truly understood you. My clients often tell me how I make therapy feel easy and approachable.
I work with teens and adults who want a supportive, collaborative space where they can be themselves, even if that includes swearing, dark humor. Therapy with me feels human, real, and welcoming!
My ideal Client… is an individual navigating major personal transitions such as coming out or redefining their identity and values, leaving a relationship, becoming a parent, or navigating neurodivergence.
I often support clients seeking help for:
- Anxiety, OCD, and phobias
- Depression and mood disorders
- Grief and loss
- Life transitions (career change, moving, retirement, job loss)
- Parenting stress and postpartum mood disorders
- Self-esteem and identity exploration
- Chronic illness and coping with long-term health challenges
- Codependency and boundary setting
- Domestic violence recovery
I Create Safety and Rapport by…being grounded in curiosity, compassion, and authenticity. I believe therapy works best when it feels like a genuine partnership.
In our work together, we will:
- Explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck
- Understand how past coping strategies once helped keep you safe
- Develop new tools for managing anxiety, stress, and difficult emotions
- Strengthen communication and boundaries in relationships
- Move toward the life you want with greater confidence and self-trust
I trust the therapeutic process and respect each client’s pace for change.
I also strive to create therapy that is inclusive and socially aware, especially for clients from marginalized communities. Your experiences within larger systems and structures matter, and they deserve to be acknowledged rather than pathologized.
And if I don’t know something, I’ll say so and take time to learn.
Three things I love are…
- My family, consisting of my cat (who thinks he is a dog), my two amazing adult children (who remain my best teachers), and my chosen family.
- Car camping on Jordan Lake with my bestie.
- Drinking too much coffee for my own good and singing along to the Indigo Girls, loudly and off key.
Credentials
Julie has trained and worked for decades with families along the perinatal spectrum: during pregnancy, birth, postpartum, during breast and chestfeeding, for newborn care and safety, babywearing, child development as well as through postpartum mood disorders. Julie seeks to empower, inform and validate parents of infants and children of all ages. U.S. parents often find themselves in impossible binds, committed to breastfeeding but admonished to parent in ways that subvert parental instincts, forced to return to work while still recovering from birth, still learning to feed, socially isolated, ashamed and embarrassed, convinced that they *should” be able to “do it all,” often comparing their real lives to the curated images of instagram. The risk factors for postpartum mood disorders compound and it doesn’t have to be this way.
As part of the LGBTQIA+ community, Julie has long supported queer youth, especially those facing the challenges of neurodiversity in a society designed for neurotypical people, the impact of complex trauma, and conflict with partners, friends or family, to say nothing of housing and food insecurity.
Specialized Training:
Perinatal mood disorders — postpartum depression, OCD, postpartum psychosis and effective treatment. Postpartum International
Anti-racism through the Racial Equity Institute and many other sources
LGBTQIA+ competency — decades of lived experience and many trainings over several years
Child development and Parent/Caregiver effectiveness — many trainings over decades
Somatic Therapy blending aspects of parts work and mindfulness to safely access the unconscious mind, and to process trauma and unhelpful beliefs, gaining insight and self-compassion from a place of calm and safety, bypassing the “noise” of the conscious mind and avoiding re-traumatization.
